The New Age of Television HD

Understanding HDTV

Most of us know HDTV as a higher picture quality on the television. This is true, but it is important to have a thorough understanding of an entire HD hotel system in order to make sure appropriate purchasing decisions are made when migrating your hotel rooms to high definition technology.

HDTV increases the number of scanned resolution lines on the television to 720 or 1080 from 486. It also increases the number of pixels per line to 1,920 from 720. In short, higher line count and pixel count translate into a sharper and clearer picture on the television. Typically, the total pixel resolution increases to more than two million from 350,000 with HDTV. In addition to the picture quality, the format of the picture becomes 16:9 versus the standard 4:3 that we see on most CRT televisions, and the sound quality can be delivered in high definition 5:1 versus the standard analog sound we are accustomed to today.

Benefits of HDTV

HDTV dramatically increases the resolution of the television picture, with six times more picture detail than today's standard television. HDTV offers sharper, wider pictures with stunning digital surround sound. As a result, HDTV is much more vivid and lifelike.
